Opening your Workspace

A workspace is essentially a folder on your local disk that contains the files that make uo the workspace. This includes the notes, project and settings files used to make it work.

Choose a workspace folder

When MellowMill opens, it starts with a default workspace. In MellowMill, a folder is a workspace: it holds the notes, tasks, projects, and reference material that belong together.

Open MellowMill, a selection appears letting you select which workspace to open
Switch to another workspace by selecting the ‘folder’ icon in the top left.

By default the name of the workspace is the name of the folder you create. Picking a sensible name for the folder makes it easier in the future to manage your workspace.

Set a boundary that fits

A workspace can be broad enough for a whole business or focused onto just yourself or a single project. Start with the boundary that makes it easiest to find the information you need. For example:

Workspace ScopeUseful For
One personManage your work, decisions, tasks, and supporting files.
A client or businessOngoing notes, reference material, and related projects.
A whole businessIdeas, planning, and the projects you are working on for your business.

We woudl recommend hoewver that you use multiple workspaces as needed. Trying to fit everything you do into a single workspace will probably be detrimental to your workspace organization.

Default Workspace

When you open MellowMill for the first time a defaul workspace is selected. This will be a folder inside your user directory regardless of which OS you use. For some people this is all they need and they will never need to open a new workspace, however you are free to use any folder as a workspace.

Backups

Your notes and files remain on your machine in the workspace folder unless you choose to do something with them. You could place the folder inside folders backed up by iCloud, OneDrive, DropBox etc. It is totally up to you how this is managed. We never store the contents of your workspace on our servers and we can’t help recover your data if lost. It is your responsibility to make sure your workspace is backed up as needed, su using such a service is very much recommended.
